That pounding heart when you spot a fabulous pair of shoes is usually no good for your finances.
But it is, apparently, rather good for your health.
The thrill of finding sensational stilettos or brilliant boots can send a woman’s heart racing to 120 beats per minute - a rate usually associated with a vigorous workout.
Hunting out the perfect skirt or top, however, doesn’t have quite the same exciting results.
Experts say this could help explain why so many women have such a weakness for shoes

No one stuffs a baby’s pudgy piggies into stiletto pumps.
But the thought probably has crossed designers’ minds.
A baby-shoe boom has sent the classic white leather booties toddling into the bronzed sunset. Wiggling into their place are skater-boy Vans, trendy metallic Umi sandals and music-mogul gold sneakers from Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. brand. Even Italian icons such as Roberto Cavalli and Giorgio Armani are playing footsie — at sugar-daddy prices.
Can mini-Manolos be far behind?
“The market has grown considerably and I think a lot of it has to do with the celebrity baby boom,” said Erin Clack, children’s market editor for the trade publication Footwear News. “It’s become a bigger thing to use your child as an accessory almost.”

Nice British Article
“More than once it’s occurred to me: what is it with modern women getting so pathetic and overexcited about shoes? You know, Sarah Jessica Parker syndrome: screeching in faux-orgasmic delight about their must-have Manolos as if nothing else mattered. In a way, fair enough (girls are allowed their toys as well as boys). And I understand the true hidden allure of shoes for women - if you’ll notice, they accessorise one of the few parts of a woman’s body which can be relied upon not to suddenly ruin her look (and her life) by gaining weight. In this way, shoes are the devoted dogs of the fashion world - blind to their owner’s physical faults, and for that alone they must be worshipped. Yet every so often there would be this tickle of feminist irritation at the way women seemed to use shoes as an excuse to regress to ‘fairer sex’ status, only this time with a knowing ironic nod that (sometimes, somehow) made it worse.”

Designer shoes are one thing; but a designer ZIP code is another.
The shoe department at Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship store in New York is moving and getting a new ZIP code — not moving to a new town, mind you, just moving four floors up. And the new ZIP code isn’t for the whole building; it’s just for the eighth floor.
The new 8,500-square-foot department and its mailing code will share the same name: 10022-SHOE.

A shoe so unique it’s considered a medical tool in Europe to help people with back problems
The shoes are called MBTs, and that stands for Masai Barefoot Technology. The shoe was inspired by the Masai Tribe in Africa, a tribe whose members walk without shoes on sandy and uneven terrain. The shoes were made to simulate how they walk but on hard, flat surfaces.
“It takes all the pressure off your joints and basically puts it in your stabilizer muscles, which is why they’re also known as cellulite reducers,” said Jill Simon, of Lynda’s Birkenstock, a store that sells MBTs.
The shoes themselves are pricey, in the range of about $265 for a pair. However, the shoe’s makers say they work because the MBT design creates instability and activates muscles in your legs, buttocks and stomach.
