They’re made of leather and suede, and come in colors such as deep caramel and citrus yellow.
Clearly, these are not your father’s Pro-Keds.
The iconic sneakers, which rose to popularity in the late 1960s and early ’70s with their trademark two-color stripes on the side, have enjoyed a renaissance in urban hip-hop fashion.
Much of that is due to hip-hop impresario Damon Dash, who partnered with Stride Rite in 2005 to revitalize the Pro-Keds line.
The latest version, which goes on sale this month, will retail for as much as $125.
“They’re cool sneakers for cool kids,” said Dash, who co-founded Roc-a-Fella Records. “You’re making a statement.”
